چکیده

Network structure can have a significant impact on the propagation of diseases, memes, and information on social networks. Different types of spreading processes (and other dynamical processes) are affected by network architecture in different ways, and it is important to develop tractable models of spreading processes on networks to explore such issues. In this paper, we incorporate the idea of synergy into a two-state ("active" or "passive") threshold model of social influence on networks. Our model's update rule is deterministic, and the influence of each meme-carrying (i.e., active) neighbor can-depending on a parameter-either be enhanced or inhibited by an amount that depends on the number of active neighbors of a node. Such a synergistic system models social behavior in which the willingness to adopt either accelerates or saturates in a way that depends on the number of neighbors who have adopted that behavior. We illustrate that our model's synergy parameter has a crucial effect on system dynamics, as it determines whether degree-k nodes are possible or impossible to activate. We simulate synergistic meme spreading on both random-graph models and networks constructed from empirical data. Using a heterogeneous mean-field approximation, which we derive under the assumption that a network is locally tree-like, we are able to determine which synergy-parameter values allow degree-k nodes to be activated for many networks and for a broad family of synergistic models.

Robust Fault Detection on Boiler-turbine Unit Actuators Using Dynamic Neural Networks

Due to the important role of the boiler-turbine units in industries and electricity generation, it is important to diagnose different types of faults in different parts of boiler-turbine system. Different parts of a boiler-turbine system like the sensor or actuator or plant can be affected by various types of faults. In this paper, the effects of the occurrence of faults on the actuators are in...

Accuracy Assessment of Geo-Statistics and Artificial Neural Networks Methods to Estimate Threshold Wind Velocity: A Case of Jazinak Region, Sistan Plain

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Threshold wind velocity is a major influencing variable in transportation of soil particles and dust production. It is considered as an important component in many theoretical equations and numerical models due to its importance in wind erosion studies (Stout & Zobeck, 1996). The wind tunnel method (fixed and portable), empirical relationships and sediment tr...

A Two-Threshold Guard Channel Scheme for Minimizing Blocking Probability in Communication Networks

In this paper, we consider the call admission problem in cellular network with two classes of voice users. In the first part of paper, we introduce a two-threshold guard channel policy and study its limiting behavior under the stationary traffic. Then we give an algorithm for finding the optimal number of guard channels. In the second part of this paper, we give an algorithm, which minimizes th...

Delineation of alteration zones based on kriging, artificial neural networks, and concentration–volume fractal modelings in hypogene zone of Miduk porphyry copper deposit, SE Iran

This paper presents a quantitative modeling for delineating alteration zones in the hypogene zone of the Miduk porphyry copper deposit (SE Iran) based on the core drilling data. The main goal of this work was to apply the Ordinary Kriging (OK), Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), and Concentration-Volume (C-V) fractal modelings on Cu grades to separate different alteration zones. Anisotropy was ...

In this paper we study the topology effects on diffusion process in signed networks. Considering a simple threshold model for diffusion process, it is extended to signed networks and some appropriate definitions are proposed. This model is a basic model that could be extended and applied in analyzing dynamics of many real phenomena such as opinion forming or innovation diffusion in social netwo...
